The weather in Bristol during April is generally mild and changeable, typical for spring in the Appalachian region. Temperatures are cooler than in summer, but the conditions are usually comfortable for spending long hours at the track during the Food City 500 weekend.
April is one of the wetter months in the region, averaging around 4–5 inches (100–125 mm) of rain during the month. Showers are fairly common and can appear suddenly, often in the afternoon or early evening. While NASCAR races can run in light rain depending on track conditions, it’s wise to bring a poncho or waterproof jacket.
Winds are generally light to moderate (5–10 mph / 8–16 km/h) but may become gusty when weather systems pass through the Appalachian Valley.
